Interview

Paulo Dias

PHBP is a company that has been in operation for over 15 years and has quickly achieved a high level of prestige. How would you characterize the company’s actions over time?

PHBP emerged to address an identified need in the national market, that of providing customized infrastructure solutions for telecommunications networks.

With the creation of PHBP in partnership with the Brazilian company PHB from São Paulo, we combined over 30 years of market knowledge in the creation of outdoor and indoor cabinets for telecommunications with experience in power systems engineering for the same purpose. Over these 16 years, PHBP’s administration has invested in highly qualified human resources and technological development equipment/tools, allowing us to develop unique and excellent products recognized by both national and international markets.

The company operates in both the national and international markets. Given the need to maintain quality, what were the main challenges in internationalizing the business?

As a Portuguese SME, it is not easy to succeed in the international market. However, due to our performance with national operators who also operate internationally, we were invited to present solutions for cross-border projects. We executed these projects exemplarily, which gave us credibility and opened doors with telecommunications operators on the international stage.

Technology is evolving rapidly, requiring organizations to be increasingly agile and pragmatic in problem-solving. As a technology company, what systems do you use to stay updated and relevant in the electronic industry?

We strive to always follow market trends by participating in international specialty events and providing our staff with specialized technical training to stay abreast of the latest technological innovations. We also develop strategic partnerships with cutting-edge technology development companies, allowing us to keep our products equipped with the latest solutions concerning current trends and the need for high performance and energy efficiency.

As a manufacturer, how has the company responded to the recent increase in raw material costs?

To avoid fully reflecting this increase in the cost of our final products, we opted to make our resources more productive through industrialization, investing in machinery that increased the profitability of our production.

The new community framework, Portugal 2030, presents a set of investment incentives, particularly the System of Incentives for Productive Innovation, which aims to strengthen production capacity through investment in innovative activities. Since innovation is one of PHBP’s main strategic axes, how do you view these supports from European funds?

We have an investment plan that aligns with the premises of the community framework, hoping to take advantage of these new supports to allow PHBP to grow more quickly.

To date, all investments in the company’s growth have been made with our own capital, which has sometimes caused temporary limitations in the implementation of new projects.
