IDEPA
MagazineHM #43 presents an interview with Eduardo Moura e Sá, Administrator of IDEPA, a client of HM Consultores, which manufactures labels and trimmings.
Interview
Based in São João da Madeira, IDEPA has been in the market for almost 60 years and has differentiated itself through proactivity and a forward-thinking approach to product design. Has this been the secret to the company’s longevity?
Our attitude has been one of loyalty and commitment to our stakeholders, focusing on long-term management. We have always prioritized reinvestment in the company itself in terms of innovation, technology, and commercial skills. We believe this conduct has earned us a lot of trust from our partners, ensuring IDEPA’s stability and its ability to commit to high-demand and long-term projects.
You have taken a position based on contemporary concerns such as sustainability, research & development, and design. How do you implement these concepts in your products?
We have multidisciplinary teams that have acquired the company culture and the ability to integrate these concepts into our development processes naturally and inevitably. We have implemented the IDI management system, according to the Portuguese Standard 4457 for Research, Development, and Innovation Management, which has been a significant support in the development of products and new organizational and marketing methods.
We often look at the industry as a set of automatic machinery, where imagination does not reside. However, IDEPA sees creativity as a key component of its business. Is a creative team crucial to standing out in the textile industry?
Creativity is immediately part of our value proposition, and without this ability, we would hardly have reached 58 years of age. Our experience has taught us that the creative and innovative capacity of products and processes, even in the broader sense, has always been one of our competitive advantages.
You have significantly benefited from community fund support, from Innovation applications to Internationalization and Qualification applications. Based on the company’s extensive experience, how would you characterize the interaction with these supports?
Overall, the mechanisms have worked in achieving their final objectives. The support received has been very important for our development, and we must be grateful to the European Union as a country and as a national business fabric.
According to the company’s strategy, what are your perspectives for the new Portugal 2030 community framework?
IDEPA’s strategy broadly coincides with the new community framework’s incentive policy and current market trends, which combine sustainability and decarbonization in industry investments. In this sense, we are optimistic, despite the instability in energy markets, which can completely change the direction of investment decisions after the applications are submitted and may require flexibility from public institutions.
